To eat or not to eat?

Happy Monday! happy Holidays! ‘Tis the season for family, festivity, and food—lots of food. When you’re trying to start a healthy journey but temptations are everywhere, and parties and travel disrupt daily routines. What’s more, it all goes on for days – weeks for some!

I’ve been there and trust me – it wasn’t easy. It was hard to control myself when people around me were having fun while grilling meat, drinking, and eating mouth-watering desserts.

BUT here’s the thing, holidays should be an exciting day where people can relax and step back from reality – It also shouldn’t be a “food torture” day for people like us! And so – “If you can’t beat them, join them!” But join them in our way.

Outsmart the buffet

When you face a spread of delicious holiday food, make healthy choices easier:

  • Have a small plate of the foods you like best and then move away from the buffet table.
  • Start with vegetables to take the edge off your appetite.
  • Eat slowly. It takes at least 20 minutes for your brain to realize you’re full.
  • Avoid or limit alcohol. If you do have an alcoholic drink, have it with food.

Fit in Favorites

The thing about healthy living is that there is no food on the naughty list. Choose the dishes that you want, eat slowly, and savor a small serving. Avoid making the excuse – “I’m gonna gobble a lot today and workout tomorrow” Healthy living is a lifestyle, not a one-night date.


Finish with some sweets

Did you know that – When we eat sweets, our body releases Tryptophan, an amino acid, which in turn increases the serotonin level in the body. This serotonin sends signals to the brain telling it to ‘feel contented’ in the belly.

I recommend eating sweets, your body needs that! But not all sweets are good and sugar comes in many names!
